Seven crew members of the tug Girija III, which was in ingress off Deendayal Port, were rescued by the port’s crafts and tugs in a rescue operation carried out on Wednesday and early morning Thursday. The crew has been sent for medical assistance.
The port went into action after a VHF message was received from the tug, immediately sending tugs and asking other crafts in the area to rush to the site and render assistance. The Coast Guard also sent an interceptor for assistance.
Deputy Chairman, Mr Alok Singh, and Deputy Conservator, Capt. Srinivas, along with others monitored the assistance and rescue work. In fact, the Deputy Chairman was with officials of the Marine Department at Signal Station up to 2.30 am on Thursday along with DC and Harbour Master guiding the search and rescue operations the entire night.
With God’s grace and extremely hard efforts in very rough sea and weather conditions, this miraculous rescue operation was successfully carried out, for which all members of the search and rescue team deserve hearty congratulations, said a release.
