Emirates SkyCargo, the freight division of Emirates, has transported record volumes of mangoes from Mumbai in the months of May and June 2018.
The air cargo carrier witnessed a growth of more than 50 per cent in the volume of mangoes transported in May this year compared to the same period last year. Close to 1,130 tonnes of mangoes were uplifted from Mumbai to destinations around the world through Emirates SkyCargo’s extensive global network in May 2018. They were carried both as belly hold cargo on passenger aircraft as well as on freighter aircraft.
Since April 2018, over 2,650 tonnes of mangoes have been exported on Emirates SkyCargo from India, of which 2,142 tonnes were from Mumbai. The major markets to which Indian mangoes are transported on Emirates SkyCargo include the Middle East, the UK, the US, Canada and other parts of Europe, highlighted a release.
Mumbai is an important gateway for mango exports, it added.
