All India Association of Industries (AIAI) and World Trade Centre Mumbai are organising a panel discussion on ‘Unlocking BIMSTEC Potential’ at Centrum, 1st Floor, Centre 1 Building, World Trade Centre, Cuffe Parade, Mumbai on Wednesday, September 5, 2018.
The event is the first precursor to AIAI’s flagship Global Economic Summit, the eighth edition of which is scheduled in March 2019 on the theme ‘Services in an Evolving Global Economy: Creating Growth and Value for 21st Century Business’.
Mr M. Shahidul Islam, Secretary-General of BIMSTEC, has consented to address the panel discussion, informed a release.
The objective of the event is to reflect on the progress and milestones achieved by this vibrant BIMSTEC regional cooperation, which accounts for 22 per cent of the world’s population.
A key feature of the event is the release of the MVIRDC Research Publication titled ‘BIMSTEC – A Vibrant Economic Bloc – Potential Opportunities and Challenges’. The study features a critical overview and an in-depth data analysis on potential for BIMSTEC cooperation in trade, agriculture, infrastructure, transport and communication, sustainable development, etc. The study has been conducted by MVIRDC World Trade Centre Mumbai under the guidance of Dr Prabir De, Professor, Research and Information System for Developing Countries (RIS).
The event will be addressed by experts from India’s leading think tanks and senior government officials and delegates from trade and industry. The distinguished panelists will share their perspectives on the outcome of the fourth BIMSTEC Summit held from August 30-31, 2018 in Kathmandu. They will also highlight potential sectors for trade and investment among micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in BIMSTEC countries, the release added.
